Chomp. That’s the sound you made back then. Back when we used to eat all of the potatoes together. Or potats. That’s what we called them, right? I loved being with you back then. We could eat as many potats as we wanted. We could run around and watch anime together, read books, and rant to each other. Everything was perfect back then. But I suppose nothing lasts forever, right? I never wanted to say goodbye to you – I always knew that the day you left would be the day my life would change. The days aren’t as bright without you; they’re not as fun. Every second is a neverending reminder of how life used to be – how deep and meaningful everything was. Now, each second is simply a hollow shell of everything it used to be. I used to love going outside with you, running around the garden, playing Spider off the Web in the playground. Now, I despise those things. I despise how much time we wasted back then; we could’ve been so much smarter, so much more athletic, so much better if we hadn’t wasted all of that time. Or at least, a small part of me does. I don’t know when you and I stopped seeing eye to eye, but I do know that a bigger part of me will always wish you were by my side. You kept me in check, took care of me, made sure I was always okay. But most importantly, you made sure that whenever I picked up that brown, lumpy vegetable from our garden, I always called it a potat. Because now without you, I can’t help but say potato.
