My Journey Through Scouting

Looking back on my journey in scouting as I am on my final steps toward achieving Eagle Scout, I’ve realized how far I have come and how much I have learned and experienced in scouting. From my first time putting on the uniform and attempting to recite the Scout Oath and Law at my first meeting and through the many meetings and camping trips where I learned scout skills, earning various merit badges, advancing in ranks, to my final year as I would help lead and guide the troop. I am confident that I will carry on the scouting principles and values throughout my life and beyond my days in scouting.

Since I am already in my last year of high school, I am taking two Advanced Placement Courses; AP Environmental Science and AP Statistics. I already took AP Biology in my Junior year. Although AP classes are challenging, my hope is that taking AP Biology will pave the way to my desired major in college, biomedical engineering. With everything I have to juggle — clubs, school work, friends, volleyball, scouts — the most important things right now are college applications and achieving the Eagle Scout rank, which will decide what I do with my future and my life. I also prioritize giving back to my community and being active in clubs that are meaningful to me. A club I run with some friends, for example, is the Highlight Hope Foundation. We collect money and school supplies to give back to children and families that can’t afford to buy new ones each year. I am also in the Bible Club where we learn and talk about passages in the Bible and apply these things to situations happening in the real world.

In college, I want to learn more in the biomedical field and be able to move toward the dental specialty. I want to be a dentist and lead others in my job. With my expertise, I hope to share innovative ideas to deliver advanced medical treatments to people in my community. More importantly, I want to be able to be the person who is always going the extra mile to lend a helping hand to others.

Working on my Eagle project was truly a rewarding experience. One of my adult mentors within my troop helped me to get the project opportunity, and with the help of scout elders, I was able to make a project proposal, plan the activities, purchase the materials needed for the project, and coordinate and execute the project on time. This taught me a great deal about how to plan and implement a project successfully; I will carry the knowledge in years to come. This privilege and opportunity that Eagle Scouts can get while in high school makes me feel very much blessed. I am indebted to all my scout leaders, as well as my parents and fellow scouts, for helping me grow, dream, and learn.

In life, I want to be able to help and lead everyone that crosses my path. Scouting will always be with me and I will continue to live by the oath, law, motto, and slogan throughout my everyday life. When I have a family of my own, I want to also put my kids within the program to let them know and experience the same scout life that I went through. I also would like to be an adult leader and help out the very troop that I hope to end up putting my kids in. I am enthusiastic to put in the same time and effort to help the children in scouts just as the leaders in my troop have done to help support the troop and raise up scouts like me.
